Sea Rowing from Barry Yacht Club.

16 January 2013

Barry Yacht Club is looking to establish a sea rowing section. Sea Rowing is probably the fastest growing sport in Wales, with teams of all ages and sexes firmly established around the coast of Wales from Angelsea to Mumbles using Celtic and Pembroke Long Boats.

Celtic Long Boats are 24ft.6" overall and built from low maintenance fibreglass with Carbon Composite oars. They are a 4 person coxed rowing boat used for recreation, training and racing.

The Welsh Sea Rowing Association league hold regular events and racing around the coast, with several longer events include a river Thames Race and Pembroke to Ireland.

Barry Yacht Club has currently 2 Pembroke Long Boats, but as the section and rowing develops in the club, with the help of the Welsh Sea Rowing Association we would be looking to expand with several new Celtic Long Boats.

This is an opportunity for people of all ages and sex to participate in new and exciting and healthy sport.

Barry Yacht Club, is situated on Barry Island outer harbour next to Jackson Bay the Club has a comfortable newly refurbished lounge and a very active social calendar during the year with Sunday lunches, Quiz evenings and talks on various subjects to cater for all tastes during the winter on club nights. The club has an excellent workshop and secure parking for members cars.
